Mr Gay Syria on the Pink Screen

Documentary film Mr Gay Syria will be screened at the 16th edition of the Pink Screen Festival at Cinema Galeries on Sunday 12th November, in the presence of director Ayse Tropak. This film tells the story of gay Syrian refugees living through the migration crisis, the danger of being homosexual in Turkey and their hope to find a better future in Europe.

Mahmoud, the founder of the LGBTI movement in Syria and himself a refugee in Berlin, tries to launch a Mr Gay Syria competition within a Turkish refugee camp, with a view to going on to compete in Mr Gay Universe. A handful of candidates show up: Hussein, the father of a young girl and a hairdresser, and still in the closet; Omar, a totally extrovert cook; Wissam, who’s convinced that a pair of cute shorts and Minnie Mouse ears will win over the jury; as well as a few others… Between life in the camps and the delirious moments of preparation, linking hope and resistance, this film is an ode to life.
